Introduction

What is the Eye Laser Association?
Founded in January of 2003, the Eye Laser Association (ELA) was set up by a group of laser eye clinics, which wished to formalise a code of ‘best practice’ within the industry. Its members have each signed up to the Association’s Code of Practice, which has been set out to ensure that all patients of the member clinics are treated with both fairness, and honesty. ELA members are also committed to working collectively, in order to ensure that the members of the public have access to all the information they need about laser eye treatments.
What does the ELA do?
Whilst the ELA’s Code of Practice ensures that member clinics have committed to maintaining a high standard of care, the Association also works hard to encourage improved practice amongst clinics outside of its membership. The ELA is always on hand to provide expert advice, based on its combined experience and knowledge, to discussion groups, regulatory bodies, Parliament and the media.
Who are the members?
The membership of the ELA includes 2 of the largest providers of laser eye treatment in the UK who, collectively, account for the majority of all the treatments performed in this country. The current list of members can be found in the Membership section.
What will it do?
ELA members are signed up to an agreed code of guidance, and we will seek to make that the commonplace industry standard. Against a background that can be negative we will spread information about refractive surgery amongst the public and the optical professions.
